Boulder, Colorado

Boulder is the county seat of Boulder County, Colorado, and is located 35 miles (56 kilometers) northwest of downtown Denver. The city is set in the Boulder Valley, where the plains meet the Rockies, and is called "the city nestled between the mountains and reality."

It's no surprise then, that in Boulder, the outdoors beckon. In February 2006, Backpacker magazine called Boulder the "Place you dream of living." There are nearly 100 miles (161 kilometers) of linked bikeways and multipurpose trails within the city limits. What's more, there are plenty of parks nearby, including St. Vrain State Park, Eldorado Canyon State Park, Golden Gate Canyon State Park, and more!

But let's not forget skiing! In Boulder, you're about 17 miles (27 kilometers) east of Eldora Mountain Resort, 93 miles (150 kilometers) northeast of Breckenridge, 109 miles (175 kilometers) northeast of Vail … See how easy it is?

If trails, parks, and skiing are too much, you can spend days golfing at nearby courses like Coal Creek Golf Course, Flatirons Golf Course, or Indian Peaks Golf Course.

When you want some time out in town, why not spend a day shopping in the popular pedestrian mall in Downtown Boulder, with its cafés, restaurants, entertainment and, of course, shops. Seasonally, on Sundays between April and October, you can spend your days strolling the Historic Boulder Street Market. And for tasty treats, see what's in season at the twice-weekly, April to November Farmers' Markets.

Looking for performing arts? Year-round, enjoy a show (and dinner!) at Boulder's Dinner Theatre. Or see what's playing at The Dairy, which is home to 19 arts organizations. And in the summer, see what great works are showing at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. If it's music you crave, listen to the sounds of the Boulder Philharmonic or the Colorado Music Festival (July to August, at beautiful Chautauqua Park), or see who's on the schedule at the Fox Theatre concert venue.

Got kids? Spend a day exploring at the Fiske Planetarium and Science Center, a day of playing sports at the Gateway Park Fun Center, or a day in the sun at the Boulder Reservoir.
