The city of Buffalo is located in western New York, 69 miles (111 kilometers) west of Rochester, 96 miles (155 kilometers) northeast of Erie, Pennsylvania, and 98 miles (158 kilometers) south of Toronto, Ontario. It is the county seat of Erie County, and home to 292,648 residents. Buffalo is situated on the shore of Lake Erie. The Erie Canal offers many industrial relics from the 1800s, along with natural wonders like stalactites, flow stone, and fossils.
