Camden, New Jersey

One of 37 cities and towns that comprise Camden County, New Jersey, Camden is located on the Delaware River directly across from Philadelphia.

Beginning as several small settlements along the banks of the Delaware River, the area now known as Camden began to thrive, in part, due to the success of Philadelphia (which was founded in 1682). Philadelphia's growing population attracted trade from West Jersey, and, as a result, several ferries began operating in order to ease the trade across the river. Gradually, this ferry system, which linked Camden to all the important points along Delaware's eastern shore attracted more and more new business enterprises to early Camden.

And although Camden's location on the Delaware River continues to contribute to Camden's economic development, it is also where the people of Camden go to have fun! From rocking out at concerts at the Comcast Center to cheering on the home team at ballgames at Campbell's Field to looking in wonder at tiny seadragons at the New Jersey State Aquarium to standing in reverence on the deck of the nation's most decorated warship, the Battleship New Jersey, the city's major attractions make their home on The Camden Waterfront.
