Columbia, Missouri

Columbia is located in central Missouri, 32 miles (51 kilometers) northwest of Jefferson City, 125 miles (201 kilometers) west of St. Louis, and 125 miles (201 kilometers) west of Kansas City. It is the county seat of Boone County, and has a population of 84,531.

Columbia is home to many historic attractions, including several sites dedicated to Lewis and Clark, as well as Thomas Jefferson's original grave marker on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. The Boone County Historical Society operates several museums that preserve the region's heritage, including the Walters-Boone County Museum, the historic Maplewood Home, and the Montminy Art Gallery.

The city's hottest modern attraction is the District. Located next to the University of Missouri campus, this area covers 43 square blocks, and offers 110 stores, 70 bars and restaurants, and more than 40 live performances a week. For shopping, dining, or a night out on the town, the District is definitely the place to be!

Thanks in part to the presence of three university and college campuses, Columbia enjoys a vibrant and diverse arts scene. Columbia is home to large number of art galleries, providing residents with access to fine art produced locally and from all over the country. The city is also home to numerous annual concerts series, including the Blind Boone Rag Time and Early Jazz Festival, which honors musical great and former resident John William "Blind" Boone. Outstanding performing arts events can be enjoyed year-round at the Columbia Civic Orchestra, the University of Missouri's Hearnes Center, and many local theaters.
