Costa Mesa is located in Orange County, in the Greater Los Angeles area. The city area was originally grazing land for the Mission San Juan Capistrano in the 18th and 19th centuries, and the city was incorporated in 1953.

Retail and services are a major force in the city's economy, so shoppers will be very happy in Costa Mesa. The city's upscale South Coast Plaza, with 270 stores and restaurants, is one example of a great shopping adventure. And for something totally fun and different (and outdoors) head to the Orange County Marketplace on weekends. The Orange County Marketplace is described as "America's most unique swap meet," and includes 1,100 merchants and miles of aisles of merchandise and food. When you want to see a show, go to the Orange County Performing Arts Center, which hosts regional and international symphony, dance, opera, and musical theater performances, or see what's on at the South Coast Repertory Theater.

Golfers won't be disappointed by the several nearby courses, and the fact that the county itself is home to 39 courses (and that the county is part of Greater LA, which has the largest municipal golf system in the United States!).

In Costa Mesa, you're also close to familiar Southern California attractions, such as the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, Disneyland in Anaheim, Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana, Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, and Universal Studios Hollywood.

Costa Mesa's residents are also located minutes from the Pacific beaches, and from numerous parks, such as Crystal Cove State Park, Upper Newport Bay Regional Park, Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, and Aliso & Wood Canyons Regional Park.
