Dover, New Hampshire

Dover is located in the southeast corner of New Hampshire, between the Cochecho and Bellamy rivers. The city is situated 12 miles (19 kilometers) northwest of coastal Portsmouth and 38 miles (61 kilometers) east of Concord. Dover is the seat of Strafford County, and is home to 26,884 people.

Boating is a passion among Dover locals, and there are plenty of marinas and clubs to accommodate your needs. Don't own a boat? Then join a cruise and enjoy a leisurely trip down the Cochecho and Piscataqua Rivers, visit the Isles of Shoals, or go whale watching along the New Hampshire coast.

Dover's long and rich history stretches all the way back to 1623, and heritage walking tours are a great way to learn about your new home. You can see how cotton manufacturing transformed the city at the Old Mill and Waterfront, stroll among Dover's historic houses, and see the graves of Natives and early settlers at the Pine Hill Cemetery. The Woodman Institute is a historic 1818 residence, and its eclectic displays include Native artifacts, a military museum, a natural history collection, rocks and minerals, and more.

Dover Parks and Recreation maintains many beautiful city parks. Popular destinations include Henry Law Park, which features a gym, pool, and skate park. Guppy Park is also a family favorite, and offers an ice arena, softball fields, and a swimming pool named after Olympic gold medalist and Dover native Jenny Thompson. Looking for some local culture? The Bell Center for the Arts offers music and theater classes for all ages, and hosts regular plays and concerts. The Strand Theater is located in downtown Dover, and features the latest movies on three screens.
