Duluth is located in northern Georgia, 25 miles (40 kilometers) northeast of Atlanta. The city belongs to Gwinnett County, and is home to 22,122 people. The Duluth History Museum is a great place to start your exploration of the city. Duluth was first settled in 1821, and named after Duluth, Minnesota. The arrival of the railroad in 1871 ushered in a new period of prosperity, and you can relive that time at the Southeastern Railway Museum. This museum covers 34 acres (14 hectares), and showcases steam locomotives, restored cabooses, Pullman cars, and more. Landers-Cain House is the birthplace of Eli Linson Sanders, a Confederate soldier whose letters were immortalized in the book "Weep not for me, Dear Mother." Visitors can also stroll through nearby Sweetwater Cemetery, which contains the grave Revolutionary and Confederate soldiers. The Gwinnett Center is Duluth's premier entertainment venue. The center's 13,000-seat arena hosts rock concerts, trade shows, and sports events like Gwinnett Gladiators hometown hockey games. The center also contains a 702-seat Performing Arts Theatre, where more than 250 dance, theater, and musical events are held each year. Local arts organizations include the Gwinnett Council for the Arts, Stone Mountain Chorus, and the Red Clay Theatre and Performing Arts Center. The Jacqueline Casey Hudgens Center for the Arts will delight visitors of all ages with its gallery exhibits, children's art museum, and numerous classes and art camps. On summer evenings, you can bring the whole family to the Duluth Festival Center & Amphitheatre to enjoy concerts and outdoor movies. Want to let down your hair and have some fun? Then spend the evening at Comedy Cobb, Dave & Buster's, or Wild Bill's – the largest country music dance hall in the country. Want to skate on the same ice as NHL players? Then head to the Atlanta Ice Forum, which is one of the area's finest public rinks and the official practice site of the Atlanta Thrashers. Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World stocks everything any sportsman or woman could need, and also features a giant aquarium, laser shooting arcade, and a 42-foot (13-meter) climbing wall. For a day of family fun, visit the old-fashioned McDaniel Farm Park, try a game of Laser Quest, or putt through 36 holes of mini golf at Pirates Cove Adventure Golf.
