Geneva, Illinois

The city of Geneva is located in northeastern Illinois, 36 miles (58 kilometers) west of Chicago. It is the county seat of Kane County, and home to 19,515 residents.

Geneva is situated on the west bank of the Fox River, and was first settled in the 1830s. The city's historic downtown retains many charming Victorian buildings, and is also home to more than 100 specialty shops and excellent restaurants. The Geneva History Center is located in the heart of the downtown district, and has preserved and interpreted the history of the region for 150 years.

With 57 city parks and a variety of sports and recreation programs, it's easy to stay active in Geneva! The city also offers many fitness facilities, such as a skate park, swimming pool, mini-golf, and a community center. The Fabyan Forest Preserve is located just south of the city, and features a 1907 villa, a historic windmill, and a tranquil Japanese garden.

All year round, you'll find special events that celebrate Geneva's community spirit and heritage. The Midsummer Festival-Swedish Days is the first major festival of the year, and features an exciting parade, carnival, nightly entertainment, and plenty of food and fun. This is followed by the Geneva Arts Fair, which showcases the works of more than 140 artists from around the country. In September, there's the Fox Valley Folk Music and Storytelling Festival, and December brings the annual Christmas Walk and House Tour.

Geneva is a city surrounded by great neighbors. In nearby LaFox, you'll find the Garfield Farm and Inn Museum. The museum celebrates the area's agrarian roots, and features antique farm tools, heirloom garden products, and seminars on topics ranging from wetlands management to fruit tree grafting.
