Hamilton, Bermuda

With a population of only 1,500 people, Hamilton's status as the capital city of Bermuda might seem strange. Still, despite its small size, you'll find endless excitement in this port city.

Most native Bermudans prefer to live outside the capital and commute into the city for work. In fact, owing to Bermuda's status as a tax haven for foreign companies, the job market in Hamilton is exceptionally strong. Several large insurance, investment, shipping, and oil companies have operations here, bringing an influx of economic activity to this tiny island nation.

Of course, Hamilton isn't just about business. The main commercial area, Front Street, offers up superb luxury shopping as well as a number of nightclubs. For a more traditional experience, check out the Old Colony Club, a gathering place for both foreigners and locals. Hamilton is also home to some of Bermuda's key civic and cultural institutions such as the Bermuda National Gallery, which features a diverse collection of artistic delights, ranging from African sculptures to European classics. The city also has important religious institutions, such as the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity, and large special events such as the Bermuda Festival.

And, of course, Hamilton has plenty of beaches and waterfront attractions, including Albuoy's Point, Bay Island Beach, and Blue Hole Hill Park. (And the beaches here are unique – they're pink!)

With its gorgeous scenery, laid-back lifestyle, and prosperous economy, Hamilton truly has the good life.
