Missouri

The State of Missouri was named after a small native community whose name means "town of the large canoes," and is now home to more than 5,704,484 people.

St. Louis is known as the Gateway to the West and the Home of the Blues. Kansas City has more miles of boulevards than Paris, and more fountains than anywhere else in the world except Rome. St. Louis also has more miles of freeway per capita than any metro area with more than a million residents. If you like driving, this is the place for you! Branson and the Tri-Lakes area is a day's drive from 50% of the US population – it serves up to 65,000 visitors daily, who mainly arrive by car, bus, or RV. The jazz scene also abounds throughout the state.

Much of the state is covered with rolling hills and open fertile plains to the north, and rough hills with narrow valleys to the south. And the many state parks offer lots of ground for camping, fishing, hiking, and other outdoor recreation.

Inventions from Missouri include iced tea, the ice cream cone, Aunt Jemima pancake flour (the first self-rising flour for pancakes and the first commercial ready-mix food), and the first successful parachute jump made from a moving airplane. St. Louis also houses the largest beer producing plant in America.

Missouri's famous people include Laura Ingalls Wilder (writer of the Little House on the Prairie series), Harry S. Truman, Robert Pershing Wallow (the tallest man documented in medical history), Yogi Berra, William Burroughs, T.S. Elliott, James Langston Hughes, Jesse James, Vincent Price, and Dennis Weaver.

Moving to Missouri means good friends and good fun, and you'll always know why you chose Missouri as your home.
