I just love Vancouver – from its majestic, snow-capped mountain ranges and tranquil green spaces to its urban hustle and bustle. It's quite amazing what this small sawmill settlement has become since it's founding more than 130 years ago. It's now the third-largest city in Canada. And, in 2001, it was voted the city with the best quality of life in the world. It's hard to argue with that. The West Coast lifestyle gives you a little bit of everything. It's one of Canada's bustling art centers, whether it's a small artist-run gallery or the larger Vancouver Art Gallery. For music, you can go for the high culture of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra or the Vancouver Opera, or take part in the happening Canadian popular music scene in many a rock venue or dance club. And, of course, an occasional visit to the one-stop art appreciation center known as Granville Island is a must! Vancouver is also one of Canada's premiere locations for outdoor adventure. In fact, enjoying the outdoors is almost a requirement to live in Vancouver. It's soon to be the home of the 2010 Winter Olympics, so you know the skiing has to be top-notch. Nearby Whistler Blackcomb is one of the world's top skiing destinations. In the harbor, you are just as likely to view sea kayaks and windsurfers as your are to see cruise and cargo ships. Anywhere else you go in the city, you'll see countless joggers, bikers, and inline skaters. Whatever activity you do, just be prepared for rain, especially in the winter. Vancouver is also a great place for the simple pleasures in life. A peaceful walk through Stanley Park will lead you to great views of North Vancouver and the Lions Gate Bridge at Prospect Point. Just a walk under those big trees will do you a world of good. However, my personal favorite Vancouver activity is to get a great coffee and some take-out, sit on a bench on English Bay, and watch the sunset! Maybe I'll see you there!
