Washington

When someone mentions Washington State to me, the first thing that comes to mind is mountains, the Pacific Ocean, strong coffee, and rain. However, I've quickly learned that there's much more to Washington State than that! Outdoor activities range from everything from whale watching, and skiing, to llama trekking. Cities range from the booming metropolis of Seattle, to the small town charm of Pullman. Geography can range from the Rockies, Pacific Coast, and glaciers, to rolling plains.

Everybody knows Seattle: it had a well-publicized music scene in the '90s; it's where a popular TV series with everybody's favorite radio psychiatrist was set; and nearby Redmond is the home to the technical giant Microsoft. Besides that, it's also a great place to eat! If you like fusion cuisine, this is the place! Expect great variety, originality, and lots of seafood. Seattle also has all the arts and culture that you could possibly want, with its symphony, opera, choral and chamber singers, museums, galleries, film festivals and more. In addition, like any other world-class city, it also has world-class shopping. All of this is within easy access to such great outdoor activities like skiing, kayaking, hiking, and mountain climbing. You can see why about one-third of the state's population lives in the area. There's so much to do, you'll need to stop at a hip café for a latté just to recharge!

If the hustle and bustle of the Puget Sound area and Seattle isn't for you, try the Olympic peninsula, the Coastal Region or Washington Islands. Here you can hike through old growth forest in Olympic National Forest, or walk along unspoiled coastline, kayak into hidden coves or go whale watching! If you're really adventurous, you can even try the llama trekking!

If mountains aren't your thing, you can always try wine country in the Yakima Valley or visit the rolling plains and buttes of the Palouse. These areas are perfect locations for camping and hiking, great places to play some rounds of golf, and, of course, great places to sample wines and fresh produce.

So, think about a move to Washington State. It's all you think it is and much, much more.
