There is only one word that comes to mind when I think of Waterbury: grandeur. Known for its exquisite neighborhoods and its stately public buildings, this beautiful city is the place to experience the serene lifestyle of New England.

By far, the most distinctive area of Waterbury is the Hillside Historic District. Featuring fine Victorian-style homes built by wealthy 19th-century industrialists, this neighborhood in the center of the city is a gem. In addition to housing, the area is home to the Connecticut Store, which sells made-in Connecticut products only, and Hayden Homestead Park, a lush property that features the annual Lilac Festival. The other neighborhood of note is the Overlook District. One of the earliest 20th-century planned suburbs, this area was designed to be a natural oasis allowing people to escape the industrial inner city. The area is lush with greenery and offers a gorgeous view overlooking the downtown.

Waterbury has a rich arts community. The historic Palace Theatre shows well-known plays and concerts and is the place to spend a classy night on the town. The city also has an up-and-coming professional theater group the Seven Angels Theatre. Besides theater, other arts organizations include the Brass City Ballet, the CT Dance Theatre, the Connecticut Dance Theatre, and the renowned Waterbury Chorale.

Waterbury also has a strong sense of history, particularly its colonial and Revolutionary War past, so the locals are not afraid to show their patriotism. Local monuments include the Ben Franklin Statue, the Soldiers Monument, which commemorates the Civil War, the Harrub Pilgrim Memorial, a monument to the first arrivals from Europe, and the Christopher Columbus Statue. These tributes to the past show that Waterbury is a place with a strong community spirit. It also has excellent nearby colleges and universities and affordable housing prices, all of which make it an excellent place to settle and raise a family.
