The mandate of Nunee Health Board Society is to represent the healthcare and health-related needs for the community of Fort Chipewyan. The Philosophy is having a balance between the different physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental needs of each individual leading to the ability to maintain and control his or her wellbeing. Nunee Health was formed 1993 by the two first nations in the community, the Mikisew Cree and the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation. Together with the Metis, they wanted better health for the community. The Board of Directors is made up of 6 members, representing the youth, Elders, a mikisew rep, an ACFN rep, metis rep, and a community member at large. We serve all members of the community, and are recognized as the authority for the community. We are a transferred community who receive a majority of our funding from Health Canada.
