Description: Contract 7 months plus 2 option years

Job Description:
• Conduct medical examinations for pensioners and applicants of pension for the Veterans Affairs Canada in Nova Scotia. This includes Halifax/Dartmouth and also all other areas of Nova Scotia.
• Examine pensioners and applicants for pensions, provide detailed description of the Veteran's complaints and the findings of disability using a form to be provided be Veterans Affairs Canada.

The examinations required fall into one of three categories namely:
1. New Entitlement
2. Complaints
3. Reviews

• The first two categories require an immediate examination and a report. The third will be done as time permits. Exams are performed on site at the Halifax District Office or at the office of the physician choice. Provide advice to the District Director on medical matters relating to the eligibility and care of Veterans.
• Attending and participating at all weekly District Health Care Team meetings to provide consultation on medical issues.
• Be available to provide consultation (in terms of medical or mental health issues) in order to respond to urgent medical situations relating to veteran care needs or as requested by the Project Authority.
• Establishing contacts with physicians via Paramedical Support clerk to obtain medical reports and other related information required to make expeditious recommendations on health care needs of veterans.
• Attend hospital liaison committees and Medical Advisory Committees to provide advice on veterans care.
• Provide consultation and advice to the Regional Medical Officer in order to facilitate care plans for veterans requiring regional or central administrative interaction and on all medical concerns at the district level.
• Attending regional meetings as required by the Regional Medical Office.
• Complete the medical portion of the attendance allowance for eligible veterans.
• Complete Pension Medical Exams for clients.
• Attend VAC specific training as it relates to the tasks we specified herein on an as when required basis.
• One half day a week will be spent sitting on the health care team and three half days will be spend doing consults. During this time, the clients will not be seen.

Mandatory Criteria:
The personnel performing this work shall demonstrate compliance with the following:
• License to practice medicine in the Province of Nova Scotia.
• Graduation from a Canadian University of Licentiate, Medical Council of Canada
• Clinical experience within the past five years as a general practitioner or specialist in geriatric medicine, psycho geriatrics or rehabilitation medicine.
• Demonstrated knowledge of recent advances in medicine relating to the health needs of the elderly.
• Demonstrated education in geriatric medicine, psycho geriatrics, rehabilitation medicine and internal medicine.
