PURPOSE: To effectively direct a sophisticated Biomedical Engineering Department in a dynamic and challenging work environment. Strategically plans, directs and develops all areas of Biomed in support of the Integrated Delivery System's (IDS) mission and vision. Provides leadership to meet operational and fiscal objectives for all services provided by the department with compliance to codes and regulations to ensure the safe and efficient operations of patient-care equipment. This includes but is not limited to: preventative maintenance and repairs services, professional education, and innovations such as telemedicine, video conference programs and clinical research support Knowledge Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is a knowledge of budgeting processes, word processing and spreadsheet software, Federal/ State/ Local standards and requirements for safe operation of medical devices, technology assessment methodology, forensic engineering processes, biomedical engineering benchmarks, healthcare delivery systems, and principles of technology related risk management. Skills Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is the ability to operate a personal computer, to negotiate and communicate effectively with in house and public entities, to instill professional behavior and organizational values, to set goals, build teams and delegate, and to direct simultaneous initiatives with innovative and analytical thinking. Formal Education and Experience The formal education and experience required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is: • A graduate degree (master, doctorate) in biomedical engineering, clinical engineering, or electrical engineering from an accredited university. • A minimum of five (5) years of experience working in healthcare environment and knowledge of healthcare delivery system models. • A minimum of three (3) years of progressive supervisory experience in managing patient care equipment program in a hospital setting. • Professional engineering license and clinical engineering certification.
